Pig Roast and the Parking Lot Dancers

90 degrees outside and over 100 degrees in the reception hall. When we arrived for set up at 5:00 p.m., not only was the pig roasting in the parking lot, but everyone who came to the reception looked like they just got out of the swimmimg pool, fully clothed. It was a hot one at the Glacier Hills State Park pavilion in Hubertus!

Thankfully one of the guests advised us to set up at the south end of the parking lot, outdoors where the risk of dancers dying from heat exhaustion was reduced. This also allowed for the fastest load in and load out in my 25 plus years of DJing, because the van was literally able to drive across the “dance floor”, and dump the equipment on the other end.

I tried the pig with a little barbeque, but it just didn’t settle after Robbie put a clump of pig skin on my plate. I got rid of the pig skin and immediately ran to the dessert table to fill my remaining appetite with a sliver of wedding cake. Robbie enjoyed the pork much more than me, but I think he has more experience with Pig Roasts.

The parking lot dance floor was a little challenging to attract dancers, but after the formal first dance and other specials, we managed to get some of the ladies out for a set of songs. Pam, the bride, liked anything from Michael Jackson, so we included Billie Jean and Beat It in our mix for the night.

It was challenging to compete with the setting sun as our lights didn’t really kick in until at 9:00 p.m. Once it turned dark, we had a packed “dance floor” and we noticed that nobody was feeling any pain.

Because of a park noise ordinance, we were instructed to finish the night at 10:00 p.m., just as things were starting to get a little crazy. Even with the shortened schedule, we were able to fit in some great group dances and top hits of 2012.

Robbie and I had another great time and we were told that we did an awesome job. The bride and groom were thrilled and the guests even applauded us! I felt a little like Dave Matthews at the end of a great night.

Thank you Pam and Dale for inviting Moceans DJ Services to provide the entertainment for the night.

Until next time, have a great week!
